As long as she can remember, there has always been music in Lenka Jensen's life, whether it was her mom singing on the family car rides, her dad playing any instrument he could get his hands on, or listening to old classical records in the family living room. Lenka has been playing the piano since she was six years old at the Folk School of Music in Pilsen, Czech Republic where she was born. Later on in high school, she picked up the guitar as well. More recently, she has taught herself to play the ukulele. Lenka has always known she wanted three things in her life: to be an early childhood teacher, make music and be a mother. She holds a degree in elementary education from West Bohemia University in the Czech Republic. When she was 23, she emigrated to US and went on to get a master's degree in early childhood education from SFSU.
"My teaching style focuses on community building through sharing musical experiences in a non performance-oriented setting. I deeply believe music connects people regardless of their musical skills or abilities. In class, I try to create a warm, comfortable and safe environment that inspires fun and silly musical adventures and allows for children's free exploration and experimentation which is so crucial at a young age. I draw from my experience as a nanny participating in Music Together® classes, a teacher for over eight years and now a mother attending class with my son. I simply love Music Together and feel truly blessed that I can share my love for it with other families and their children."
